Rohit Shetty's Cop Universe Series Greenlit by Amazon Prime for Rs 500 Crore

Rohit Shetty's Cop Universe Series Greenlit by Amazon Prime for Rs 500 Crore

In what is being called the biggest OTT deal in Indian entertainment history, Amazon Prime Video has greenlit a multi-season series based on Rohit Shetty's Cop Universe for a staggering Rs 500 crore. The deal covers three seasons of an interconnected series featuring new storylines with characters from the Singham, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi franchises.

What We Know

The series will be a prequel set 15 years before the events of the films, following the early careers of Bajirao Singham, Sangram Bhalerao (Simmba), and Veer Sooryavanshi. While the original film actors will make guest appearances, the series will introduce new actors for the younger versions of these characters through a nationwide casting call.

Each season will comprise eight episodes of 60-75 minutes each, with production values matching theatrical releases. Rohit Shetty will direct the first two episodes of each season and serve as showrunner for the entire series. The stunt choreography team from his films will handle the action sequences.

"The Cop Universe has resonated with audiences for 15 years. A series format allows us to explore these characters in depth, build new storylines, and give fans the world-building they've been asking for," said Rohit Shetty at the announcement event.

Amazon Prime's investment reflects the platform's aggressive India content strategy. The streamer has been losing ground to Jio Cinema and Netflix in original Hindi content and sees this franchise as a potential subscriber magnet. Industry insiders suggest the deal includes a profit-sharing arrangement tied to subscriber growth metrics.
