Shah Rukh Khan's 'King' Becomes Highest Grossing Indian Film of All Time

Shah Rukh Khan's 'King' Becomes Highest Grossing Indian Film of All Time

Shah Rukh Khan's action thriller 'King', directed by Sujoy Ghosh, has become the highest-grossing Indian film of all time, surpassing 'Jawan' with a worldwide gross of Rs 1,247 crore within just 18 days of release. The film, which also stars Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, has shattered multiple box office records across domestic and international markets.

Box Office Breakdown

Domestically, 'King' has earned Rs 687 crore net, with particularly strong performance in mass markets. The Hindi belt contributed Rs 412 crore, while the South Indian dubbed versions added Rs 178 crore. The international market has been equally impressive, with Rs 560 crore from overseas, led by North America (Rs 198 crore) and the Middle East (Rs 132 crore).

The film has maintained an extraordinary hold at the box office, dropping only 35% in its third week — a rarity for Hindi films. Single screens, which have been struggling post-pandemic, have seen 90%+ occupancy throughout the run, indicating broad demographic appeal.

"SRK's comeback has been nothing short of a cultural phenomenon. 'King' proves that star power, combined with quality content, can still create magic at the box office," said film trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

The film's success has also boosted the broader ecosystem, with multiplexes reporting their best quarterly revenues. PVR Inox shares have risen 22% since the film's release. Netflix has reportedly secured the digital rights for a record Rs 200 crore, while the satellite rights went to Sony Network for Rs 125 crore.
